Whether you are trying to eliminate the factory rake, fit larger tires, improve off-road performance, or simply give your Titan a more aggressive stance, choosing the right lift can be confusing. There are dozens of options available, from simple leveling spacers to premium coilovers, and each serves a different purpose.

This guide explains every major lift option available for the Nissan Titan, the advantages and disadvantages of each, and which supporting components you will need to build a safe, reliable suspension.

Leveling vs Lifting

Every Nissan Titan leaves the factory with the rear sitting higher than the front. This "rake" is intentional, because the truck sits level once cargo or a trailer is added.

Many owners prefer the appearance of a level truck during everyday driving, while others want additional ground clearance and room for larger tires.

A leveling kit raises only the front suspension to remove the factory rake. A lift kit raises both the front and rear of the truck. Most suspension lift kits raise the front slightly more than the rear to maintain a level appearance. For example, a typical 6-inch suspension lift includes approximately 6 inches of front lift and 4 inches of rear lift.

Option 1: Leveling Spacers

Leveling spacers are the simplest and most affordable way to raise the front of your Titan. They install above the factory strut and retain the stock spring and shock assembly.

Leveling spacers are ideal for owners who primarily want improved appearance and enough clearance for slightly larger tires while maintaining factory suspension components.

Option 2: Height Adjustable Struts

Height-adjustable struts offer a noticeable improvement over spacer lifts by increasing ride quality while providing front lift.

Bilstein 5100

The Bilstein 5100 is designed primarily for daily driving and light off-road use. Adjustable spring perches allow lift heights from stock to approximately 2.2 inches.

Bilstein 6100

The Bilstein 6100 uses a larger 2-inch shock body and is designed for owners who spend significantly more time off-road. Compared to the 5100, the larger body improves heat dissipation and overall performance during aggressive driving.

Option 3: Coilovers

If maximum ride quality and suspension performance are your goals, coilovers are the best solution.

Unlike spacers or adjustable struts, coilovers use vehicle-specific valving and springs to dramatically improve ride comfort, suspension control, and off-road capability.

Additional advantages include: infinite ride-height adjustment, ride height that can be adjusted while installed, a fully rebuildable design, better control on and off road, availability with internal or external reservoirs, and optional compression adjusters on select models.

ICON Coilovers

ICON coilovers feature a 2.5-inch shock body and are well known for their smooth yet planted ride quality. ICON coilovers are available in standard and extended travel.

Unlike generic applications, these coilovers utilize a longer spring that requires less preload to achieve lift. Less preload means substantially better ride quality while still providing up to three inches of lift. No other coilover on the market is specifically engineered for the 2016-2024 Nissan Titan.

When Do You Need Upper Control Arms?

Lifting a Titan changes suspension geometry. After certain lift heights, the factory upper control arms can contact the coil bucket during suspension travel, reducing droop travel and potentially causing severe damage.

We recommend aftermarket upper control arms when lifting:

  • Over 2 inches on 2004-2007 4WD Titans
  • Over 2.5 inches on 2004-2007 2WD Titans
  • Over 1.5 inches on all 2008-2024 Titans

Ignoring these recommendations can lead to cracked coil buckets or broken upper control arms.

Choosing the Right Upper Control Arm

Dirt King (Recommended)

Dirt King's 4130 chromoly upper control arms are our top recommendation for fit, finish, and longevity.

SPC

SPC arms feature an adjustable ball joint that provides additional camber correction for taller lifts. This is an excellent choice when additional camber alignment adjustment is needed.

Total Chaos

Total Chaos arms utilize a Teflon-lined uniball instead of a traditional ball joint. Advantages include maximum articulation, increased suspension travel, and no greasing required.

Because road salt can shorten uniball life, these are best suited for dry climates or dedicated off-road trucks.

Rough Country

Rough Country forged upper control arms are the most budget-friendly option.

While they have improved considerably over previous generations, they still trail premium brands in fit, finish, and ball joint longevity. Replacement ball joints are only available through Rough Country, and some installations require trimming the coil bucket.

Additional Components for a Proper Lift

Three inches is the maximum recommended front lift for 4WD Titans due to CV axle operating angles. If you are lifting your truck to three inches, we also recommend the following.

Sway Bar Endlinks

Once you reach approximately 3 inches of front lift, the factory sway bar geometry begins to change. Installing extended sway bar endlinks restores the sway bar to its proper operating angle, improving handling and suspension travel.

Camber Bolts

Proper alignment is essential after lifting your Titan.

Interestingly, 2004 was the only model year equipped with factory camber/caster adjustment bolts. All later models require aftermarket camber bolts if additional adjustment is needed during alignment.

We recommend Specialty Products Company (SPC) camber bolts because they offer a wider range of adjustments than the factory hardware. By allowing the lower control arms to move inward or outward, they make it much easier to bring camber back within specification after lifting. SPC camber bolts can be found here.

These inexpensive additions help restore suspension geometry, improve handling, and ensure proper alignment.

Rear Lift Options

The rear suspension deserves just as much attention as the front. Choosing the correct rear lift components helps maintain ride quality, suspension travel, and load-carrying capability.

Deaver Mini Leaf Packs

Deaver Mini Leaf Packs replace the factory overload leaf rather than simply adding another leaf to the pack. Because lift is created by increasing the spring's natural arch instead of increasing spring stiffness, ride quality is noticeably better than a traditional add-a-leaf kit.

Rear Lift Blocks

Rear lift blocks are a simple and economical way to increase rear ride height and are available in multiple heights depending on your application and desired stance.

Lift shackles, shown here, provide approximately one inch of rear lift and are often combined with Deaver leaf packs or lift blocks for additional height.

Rear Shocks

One of the biggest misconceptions is that longer rear shocks create lift. They don't.

Rear shocks simply fill the additional suspension travel created by lifting the truck while controlling ride quality and damping. Whether you choose Bilstein 5100s or a premium performance shock such as King, the shock itself does not increase ride height.

Selecting the proper shock length based on amount of rear lift is critical to maximizing suspension travel and ensuring your lifted Titan performs as intended.

3 inch Lift Kits

A three-inch lift is the most popular choice among customers because it maintains proper axle angles without the need for a drop-down bracket, and the customer can easily fit 34-inch tires. We have many options to fit any budget.

The most popular 3-inch lift kit is the ICON/Dirt King premium lift. This kit is fully rebuildable and will last a lifetime. It is infinitely front height adjustable from stock height to 3-inch lift and will dramatically improve ride quality, even while lifted 3 inches.

These kits are also available in Stage 2 and Stage 3 options. The difference between the stages is the rear shocks. Stage 1 kits include 2-inch body internal reservoir rear shocks. Stage 2 kits include 2.5-inch body piggyback reservoir rear shocks for more oil cooling and better performance. Stage 3 kits include the same 2.5-inch piggyback reservoir rear shocks with the addition of dampening knobs to make the ride quality firmer or softer with the twist of a knob.

Lifting Beyond 3 Inches

If you are looking for additional lift while maintaining proper suspension geometry, there are two proven approaches depending on whether your truck is two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

2WD Titans: MaxTrac Lift Spindles

MaxTrac 4-inch lift spindles, shown here, are designed exclusively for two-wheel drive Titans.

Unlike spacers or coilovers, lift spindles raise the truck by relocating the wheel hub down, rather than changing suspension geometry. The control arms, steering components, and suspension remain in the same operating position while the spindle itself creates the lift.

Because of this design, MaxTrac spindles provide more ground clearance than a traditional bracket lift while maintaining excellent suspension geometry. They also include extended stainless steel braided brake lines and require no cutting during installation.

These spindles can be combined with leveling kits, Bilstein struts, or coilovers to achieve approximately seven inches of total front lift.

4WD Titans: Bracket Lift Kits

For four-wheel drive Titans, the best solution for lifts over three inches is a bracket lift.

Bracket lift kits lower the front differential, CV axles, and suspension mounting points to maintain factory axle angles, while longer steering knuckles restore the wheel position. This allows substantial lift without placing excessive stress on the CV axles.

The downside to bracket lifts is that cutting is required to install, and the large drop-down bracket does not provide more under-clearance unless much larger tires are used.

Rough Country offers both 4-inch and 6-inch bracket lift kits for all Nissan Titan model years.

Like lift spindles, bracket lifts can also be combined with Bilstein height struts or full-length coilovers to achieve additional height, if desired.

Bracket lift kits are complete systems that do not require additional components to install. However, several upgrades can further improve durability and performance.

These upgrades are especially beneficial for trucks that see frequent off-road use or aggressive driving.

Do I need an alignment after lifting my Titan?

Yes. Any lift changes suspension geometry, so a professional alignment is essential afterward. Most Titans (all except 2004) need aftermarket camber bolts to bring alignment back within specification, since only the 2004 model year came with factory camber adjustment.
